Why Your Feet and Toes Matter in a Vascular Exam
Your feet may seem like a small part of a vascular exam, but they can tell a specialist a lot about your circulation.
Blood has to travel all the way down your legs to reach your feet and toes. When blood flow is reduced, signs can sometimes show up there first.
A vascular specialist may look at the color of your skin. Pale, blue, or unusually red toes can sometimes be linked to circulation problems. They may also feel the temperature of your feet and compare one side with the other.
Your provider may check for wounds, cracks, or sores that are taking a long time to heal. They may also look at your toenails, skin texture, and hair growth on your legs.
Another important part of the exam is checking your pulse near the ankle and foot. A weak or hard-to-find pulse may suggest that blood is not moving as strongly through the arteries.
These simple checks can give your provider useful clues. If something looks unusual, more testing may be recommended.
Your feet can reveal more about your circulation than you might expect. If you notice cold feet, color changes, slow-healing wounds, or other unusual symptoms, Pinnacle Vein and Vascular Center can help evaluate your blood flow at our Avondale, Gilbert, and Sun City locations.
